2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer - A Class Act
I've noticed a commendable trend taking place with the majority of domestic automakers lately, much improved interior quality on updated models. Ford's most recent Expedition is a good case in point. It's so much better on the inside that it's hard to recognize its pickup truck roots. But that's not all the blue oval company has done.
There are also improvements as big as the SUV's exterior dimensions in ride, handling and overall refinement. But how good is it? Does it compare well enough with full-size SUVs from GM and Toyota and then again does it have the goods to compete head on with Nissan's upcoming full-size Pathfinder Armada?
First of all it's the right size. The Expedition always was dimensionally on target for the boat and trailer pulling crowd, offering 7-passenger comfort and ample storage capacity even with the seats in place. Toyota obviously felt it was initially sized right when the Japanese automaker nearly duplicated its length, width and height in creating their 2001 Sequoia. The 2003 model continues this pattern with a 5,197 mm (204.6 in) length, 1, 996 mm (78.6 in) width and 1,991 mm (78.4 in) height that once again puts it square in the middle of GM's Tahoe/Yukon and Suburban/Yukon XL.
