BMW 335is bridges the gap between the 335i and M3
The BMW 335i already offered its enthusiast fans and owners a bib-wetting array of styling, performance, handling and looks. It’s not a machine that needed any improving where dynamics and performance were concerned-- though BMW’s engineers and designers got busy tweaking it anyhow.

And when BMW’s engineers and designers get busy tweaking, beautiful things usually happen. There’s no exception here.

Bridging the gap
Perhaps as an attempt to more closely compete with the 333-horsepower Audi S4 or have a hopped-up 3-Series coupe below the $71,000 starting price of the M3, the 335is was recently added to the brand’s product portfolio. It’s on sale now.

The gist?

This re-tuned 335i coupe gets a unique body treatment, tightened and lowered suspension, and an output boost to 320 ponies from the twin-turbo six.

The twenty extra horsepower are backed by a beefed-up cooling system and stiffer engine mounts. There’s even enhanced bumper ducting to keep fresh air flowing freely through the intercoolers and into the powerplant.

Subtly slick looking
Special badging and some unique cosmetic touches set the 335is apart from the standard model on which it’s based. These include a blacked-out grille, special wheels and a fog-lamp delete.

The look is subtle but sensational at the same time. There’s no gaudy, overdressed chrome bling here, and the entire package should easily slip by unnoticed in traffic. Of course, performance car aficionados who spot the quiet clues will catch on from first glance and swoop in for a better look.

Most likely comment from the car guys and gals at the local coffee shop?

“Nice car…like, VERY nice car”.

Most will even find the 335is’s $58,800 starting price reasonable when told of its specifications. Incidentally, said specifications make for some pretty thrilling driving.

Enhanced firepower and sound effects
The 335is’s upgraded engine is refined and liquid smooth, right from the moment it’s turned on. Driven gently, sound effects are mainly inconspicuous, shifts are nearly imperceptible, and there’s enough low-end torque to haul the machine along from under 2,000 RPM.
