Ford is playing for keeps, and the automaker is proving it once again with the introduction of its all-new 2010 Taurus, a large sedan that will make more a than few competitors blush.
And I’m not talking about the SHO, the harmless-looking powerhouse that we’ll test separately. No, I’m simply talking about the ordinary version of the Taurus, a car that was very successful in the past and, with its second rejuvenation, may very well repeat the achievement.
Style and class
Design-wise, the Ford team have done an impeccable job. The new Taurus boasts more obvious angular lines, a generally sportier profile and a more dynamic approach.
You have to note the body detailing to realize this though, in particular the rear fold inserted directly over the gas flap. Its location must have infuriated the workers charged with the Taurus’ production, but once in place the fold extends the car’s shoulder making it seem longer and more athletic.
The grille, more discreet but nonetheless efficient, the light clusters and even the small side windows make this Taurus an all-new assertion of the Ford personality.
But whatever the executives say, and especially those that ran the project, even if the body is undoubtedly beautiful, it won’t have as much impact as the Chrysler 300 in its segment. Still, Ford deserves some Brownie points.
Note that the Taurus arrives in a rather classic palette of colours including a conventional silver, beige and even red. But this year it also comes in an all-new steel blue that had a lot of people talking during the launch and that at least has the virtue of being different.
