If They Build it Will They Come

Every auto manufacturer needs a flagship model to top their lineup and it's usually a sumptuous luxury sedan or a super sports car. Ford has its new GT and Chevy the sixth-generation Corvette, while Dodge has long topped the domestic charts with its now legendary Viper. Cadillac's XLR runs with the best in the business while Chrysler's Crossfire, soon in roadster and supercharged iterations, is as enticing as anything from Europe or Asia.

This year's Detroit show has been a clear-cut example of the brainwork and soul behind each manufacturer's ambitions once again. Last year, Cadillac's Sixteen luxury sedan concept took center stage, with Ford's Mustang GT concept wooing less affluent dreamers. Dodge literally blasted show goers with its Tomahawk motorcycle, while a host of new concepts and prototypes from every maker paraded across carpeted stages with to the usual chorus of oohs and aahs.

I thought this year's show would peak at with Honda's HSC high-performance concept vehicle, what many believe will be the long overdue replacement for Acura's NSX, as well as a variety of other products from the wide world of automobiles, but I was wrong. Once again, Chrysler Group has upstaged the entire field by its best kept secret.

The Chrysler ME Four Twelve concept is a mid-engine supercar prototype (yes prototype, which means it's under consideration for production) that crushes every other entry for the glamour, power and prestige spotlight at the Detroit show this year.
