Mine's bigger than yours
The Accord is about to grow straight out of its size category. We at Auto123.com still consider it a mid-size sedan because it competes against the likes of the Toyota Camry, the Ford Fusion and the Nissan Altima, but in the USA, it’s classified by the EPA as a full-size sedan. Yup, the Accord is almost as big as a Crown Vic.

Now, do we really need a car this big? Some will obviously say yes, because bigger is better. We tend to think that the previous-gen Accord was sized just right, and they went a little overboard with the new model.

But Americans are livin’ large, and us Canadians have to deal with it.

On the other hand, the Accord offers interior space that’s about unrivalled in its category. The cockpit is also very ergonomic, and after a week or so, you get used to the gazillion buttons that are bunched up on the centre stack.

Different-coloured buttons work climate controls, top buttons for audio, lower buttons for navigation and on-board computer. We just wish the fan speed switch wasn’t so far away from the driver.

Speaking of the navigation system, the display screen’s resolution and graphics look resolutely archaic beside more modern, 3D-type systems in certain rivals. The voice-command system also has a hard time understanding orders, and connecting our Bluetooth phones takes some patience.

In addition, the interior’s mix of brown, beige and black didn’t get any positive comments around the office, either, but that’s a personal opinion. The leather seats provide a high level of comfort, and obviously suit just about everyone’s size. Rear-seat space is very generous for three adults across.

The Accord offers two engine choices, but the one that equips our test car is the more rational. A 268-horsepower, 3.5-litre V6 is available, but we’re testing the 190-horse, 2.4-litre inline-4 that provides more than enough forward motion and keeps fuel consumption low; our average of 10.9 L/100 km is not bad, despite the fact that we probably could’ve done a little better, because we got better results in a previous test.
