Seven days after the opening of the Montreal International Auto Show, Kia managed to get its hands on the new 2011 Optima EX for its Canadian debut. Those who still haven’t visited the show will now get the chance to clap eyes on the new model over the last weekend of the event.

Replacing the Magentis, the car will come in three versions (LX, EX and SX) with a choice of two four-cylinder engines: a 2.4-litre, 200-hp, direct injection mill and a 2.0-litre, 274-hp, turbocharged number offering better performance for quite a reasonable amount of fuel. The LX version will feature a stick shift while the two other variants will inherit a six-speed Sportmatic autobox off the bat.

The vehicle exhibited in Montreal is equipped with tinted windows, rear-view mirror-mounted flashers, fog lights, heated mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The 2011 Optima boasts several standard safety features, including six airbags, active headrests, a tire pressure monitoring system, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, electronic stability and traction control and hill start assist.

The South Korean automaker says occupants will discover a spacious, comfortable and ergonomic cabin that includes an AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, SIRIUS satellite radio (with a free three-month subscription), USB and auxiliary ports and a hands-free phone system via Bluetooth and steering wheel controls.

Kia plans on launching the 2011 Optima in early spring, and a hybrid variant should crop up later this year.

To get an early glimpse of the 2011 Optima, head to the Montreal Auto Show on January 20, 21, 22 or 23.
