Comfort and Refinement MaximizedIt’s no secret that pickup trucks have evolved over time to become behemoths of luxury and opulence. Ford is credited as the ignition source of this highly competitive trend thanks to a huge leap in quality and refinement that graced the F-150 a decade or so ago, raising customer expectations throughout the light-duty truck market.
In my view, the latest rig to further heighten the bar enters the ring from Chrysler’s corner, wearing a Ram badge.
Bold styling is distinctive The Ram’s grille has always been a dominating aspect of the vehicle’s exterior styling. In 2010, this design cue took a step forward – literally. The imposing chrome immensity was canted frontward to produce an aggressive sense of forward movement. At the truck’s tail, twin exhaust pipes were integrated into the lower edge of the rear bumper, giving the rear of the workhorse a more finished, almost customized appearance. Along with notable exterior design touches, my tester exhibited tight panel gaps and a level of build accuracy that was foreign to the truck segment not so long ago. As impressive as the exterior has become, it’s the Laramie cabin that really takes the 2011 Ram 1500 to new levels of sophistication and refinement. Here I found a large, spacious environment that was as well constructed and as nicely finished as a typical luxury car. It was also equally well appointed with content such as leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, navigation, backup camera, heated steering wheel, premium Alpine audio and much more.
