BMW has announced that the new 2015 2 Series Cabriolet will go on sale across Canada in late February with MSRPs starting at $45,200 and $51,900 for the 228i xDrive Cabriolet and M235i Cabriolet, respectively.
A bit later, the 2015 BMW X5 M and X6 M will hit the market at $105,900 and $108,200, respectively.
The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine of the BMW 228i xDrive Cabriolet generates maximum power of 241 hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm, while its peak torque of 258 lb-ft can be harnessed all the way from 1,450 to 4,800 rpm. Mated to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission, the 228i xDrive Cabriolet will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, while delivering fuel economy ratings of 7.2L/100km on the highway and 10.6L/100km in the city.
The BMW M235i Cabriolet becomes the first open-top M Performance Automobile. Like the Coupe, it features a higher-output M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine (322 hp) mated to either an 8-speed sport automatic or 6-speed manual transmission – 100 km/h is reached from a standstill in 5.2 seconds. Expect 8.1L/100km on the highway and 11.8L/100km in the city with the automatic transmission, and 9.0/12.3L/100km with the manual.
Meanwhile, the new M TwinPower Turbo V8 for the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M is the most powerful engine ever developed by BMW for an all-wheel-drive vehicle. This 4.4L unit produces maximum output of 567 hp between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm, which represents a 3% increase over the previous models. Both will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds through the standard 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and deliver Canadian fuel economy figures of 12.1L/100km on the highway and 16.6L/100km in the city.
