The next-generation 2016 smart fortwo is making its U.S. debut this week at the 2015 New York Auto Show. Already on sale in Europe, it will launch on this side of the Atlantic in September.
A perfect city car, the new smart fortwo is just 2.69 metres long and houses a 3-cylinder engine rated at 89 horsepower and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch transmission. At the same time, it offers more features and cargo room than the previous model.
Available amenities with the 2016 smart fortwo include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power heated mirrors, a height-adjustable driver's seat, infotainment with real-time navigation, a centre touchscreen, and more. Eight airbags come standard, one of which protects the driver's knees.
To tie in with the market launch of the new smart fortwo, the edition #1 package will be available for 2016. This offers exclusive features such as a tridion safety cell in lava orange combined with body panels in white, black 16” wheels, a sports suspension lowering the vehicle by 10 mm, a panoramic roof, LED lighting, fog lamps, seats with upholstery in black/orange fabric, a dashboard and door centre panel in orange fabric and accent trim parts in black/grey, a multifunction sports steering wheel, and velour floor mats with “edition #1” lettering.
