Audi will unveil a new 580 horsepower wagon at the Frankfurt Auto Show this year. The German carmaker says that power for their new RS 6 Avant will come from a new V10 engine with FSI direct-injection technology and twin turbochargers to create nearly 480 lb.- ft. of torque, delivered to all four wheels by their famous Quattro system.

Avant is Audi-speak for wagon- and the RS 6 will initially only be available in this style. Traditionally, the RS Audi's have been available in Wagon, Cabrio or Sedan bodies, and the smaller RS 4 can already be ordered in each of these configurations.

Supplementing the power, Dynamic Ride Control can be fixed to the RS 6's sport suspension in order to provide an ideal balance between long-trip comfort and stunning lateral performance which the driver can select at the push of a button. It's likely the only machine with so much power to also offer 1,660 litres of luggage space. Audi claims 0-60 in 4.6 seconds from the 4,400 lb rocket wagon.

The interior promises to coddle occupants in sporty luxury and is trimmed in leather, suede, aluminum and carbon-fibre. The MMI system is installed, and the rest of the cabin is set off with sport pedals and embossed seats which can be wrapped in Silk Nappa or Valcona leather.

Don't go rushing for your checkbook though- as Audi has no plans to bring this car to North America. Shame!
