Once again, it's a matter of technology in the service of the daily car. Developing the future technology that will answer today's problems is the new goal of this prestigious series.

Manufacturers will race to develop and assess the technology in order to solve fuel economy and pollution issues. Improvements can be made without compromising performance. Racing is the ultimate test bench for various systems and techniques designed to eliminate noxious emissions and reduce oil consumption. FYI, the diesel-powered Audi R10 won the 2007 ALMS Championship.

Together with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the US Department of Transportation (DoT), series executives have put forward new rules and regulations for 2008 that will help achieve this goal. Most importantly, the new ALMS Green Racing class will encourage and reward manufacturers who develop and test fuel-efficient technologies. General Motors, through its Chevrolet division, was the first to make a commitment by modifying all its Corvettes to run on E85 fuel.
