Reality or fiction? On Chrysler’s show floor in Detroit stood a Lancia Delta hatchback, only it was rebadged a Chrysler. Lancia is owned by Fiat, and crossing cars across the ocean from Italy’s Lancia line-up might be ailing company’s plan.

The Delta is a luxurious front-wheel drive, 5-door car that’s slightly bigger than a Mazda3 Sport. It’s available with such niceties as Alcantara and Leather seating surfaces, a navigation system, an electronic park assist system and a panoramic sunroof.

Power comes from five engine choices; two are fired up by gasoline and three by diesel, and all of them are turbocharged. They include a 1.4-litre gas engine good for 150 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque, and a twin-turbo 1.9-litre diesel that develops 190 hp and 295 lb-ft at just 2,000 rpm.

Also on display are a bunch of special-edition models from Chrysler’s line-up. The 300 S6 (with 3.5-litre V6) and S8 (with 5.7-litre V8) feature blacked-out grilles with chrome surrounds, smoked headlight clusters, chrome door handles and side mouldings as well as 20-inch wheels. Inside, the cars get leather and suede seats, brushed aluminum trim and red-accent stitching.

The Town & Country minivan is 20 years old, and the Walter P. Chrysler Signature Series gets perforated leather seats with French stitching, real wood trim and satin finishes on the dash and door panels. A unique paint colour is offered, and it’s called Deep Cherry Red Pearlcoat.

Meanwhile, the venerable PT Cruiser gets yet another variant called the Couture Edition, which includes two-tone paint with red pinstripes, chromed door handles and side mouldings as well as available red leather seats.
