The Xterra SUV and Frontier pickup truck are reading for updates, and Nissan North America has just released details on the refinements and improvements that buyers can expect when the 2009's arrive later this year.

Xterra is Nissan's flexible, rugged SUV for the outdoors enthusiast that doesn't always have a road between them and their destination. Photographs of the 2009 model show a mild exterior restyle, complete with new wheels, a new front-end design and available roof-mounted off-road lights.

Inside, new seat materials and colors are available, as are standard roof-mounted curtain airbags. Other features include a hands-free Bluetooth phone, high performance audio system, satellite radio, and an auxiliary input jack. Engine and transmission choices are unchanged.

"Since inception, Xterra has represented an authentic expression of adventure-focused design, both in aesthetic appeal and real-world functionality. With the enhancements for 2009, Xterra is even more in tune with the needs and desires of its active sports enthusiast owners" said Al Castignetti, vice president and GM of, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc.

For buyers after similar levels of hardware and toughness alongside the utility of an open box, the Nissan Frontier has been updated with a similar new fascia and wheels, as well as two new colors. The interior gets a new centre stack and seats as well. Frontier owners can select from a King Cab or Crew Cab model in either two or four wheel drive.

"The Frontier offers the capability and styling of a full-size truck, off-road performance credentials, innovative versatility and interior comfort. It's designed and built for those who are active, love the outdoors and want to maximize their life experiences" Castignetti added.
