Montreal Auto Show: 2007 Dodge Caliber

Replacing the Dodge SX 2.0, the Caliber is headed in a very different direction. Although it will be Dodge's entry-level model, it will compete specifically with the Toyota Matrix / Pontiac Vibe duo, the Chevrolet HHR and just about anything with a hatch in its price range.

Its styling is typically Dodge with the oversized crosshair grille and fatty fender flares. Big wheels and tires will also be at the party to complete the Caliber's younger sporty look.

The new Caliber is based on the upcoming Mitsubishi Lancer platform sporting powertrains from the DCX World Engine family. They are: 148 hp 1.8L, 158 hp 2.0L and 172 hp 2.4L 4 cylinders. The only transmission choice will be a Continuously Variable type (CVT). The Caliber will be delivered as either a FWD or an AWD vehicle.
