Now that Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada no longer gets orders from the U.S. division, but reports directly to the Japanese headquarters from now on, the firm has more latitude as to the arrival of new products on Canadian soil.

That's good news for both the company and car buyers, since we can now hope to get models that don't interest the Americans. And since the management change, sales are constantly increasing.

The presence of this small car on Canadian soil may be the beginning of a new era.

Mission accomplished for the Lancer Evolution; it's finally arriving in Canadian dealerships soon. According to Tomoki Yanagawa, Vice-President sales and corporate planning, the priority is now the Colt subcompact. And to tease us a little, the company gave us the opportunity to try out the car on our roads.

Cute as a button
The Colt is roughly the same size as the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and the like, but its appearance is distinct. What sets it apart is the large, flat and sloping windshield and, at its base, we can barely see the slight breaking angle of the hood.

The wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, and looking at it from the rear, it resembles the now-defunct Lancer Sportback.

In general, its styling is quite pleasing, modern and perfect for attracting a Canadian customer base.

Efficient interior packaging
Like the Honda Fit, the Colt's cockpit offers both space and flexibility. The plastics used are well-chosen, and the controls are easy to reach and use. The steering wheel looks like it was pulled straight out of the sporty Eclipse.

Except for a few flaws in ergonomics, the dashboard was well thought through.
