Korean automaker Hyundai has a knack for creating vehicles with a modern feel. Designers take the most successful features out there and rearrange them in their own unique way. The all-new Veracruz is a great example. Understated enough to blend in yet distinctive enough to stand out, my Limited tester offered all the bells and whistles of the competition in addition to high levels of comfort. Rather than a traditional SUV, the Veracruz is a true crossover or, as I like to call it, an in-betweener. It's a good all-around performer, although I would not venture very far off the beaten paths.
Accommodating
The Hyundai Veracruz Limited can sit up to seven passengers. The second and third rows both offer split-folding capability, providing good cargo flexibility when you need it. Plus, there are conveniently-located tie-down hooks in the back. However, the cargo floor is high and makes loading heavy items harder.
Should second-row occupants use all the room at their disposal, the two people sitting behind them will feel pretty squeezed -- almost in foetal position. Still, they can tolerate a short drive thanks to the comfortable bench seat.
Generously equipped
The air conditioning system includes rear controls for the second- and third-row ventilation ducts. Music lovers will no doubt appreciate the quality audio system, even at highway speeds, thanks to the impressive soundproofing of the Veracruz Limited. On your way to the beach house, you can count on the temperature-controlled compartment inside the center console to keep your drinks cool.
Overall, materials have been carefully selected and tastefully finished. Potential buyers expect to find plush leather seats and a refined interior, and they won't be disappointed. Brushed aluminum accents add a lively touch to the design. While the Hyundai Veracruz Limited offers a navigation system like any self-respecting large SUV/CUV, I found that readability and user-friendliness could be improved.
