On the salt flats cars attempt to set a new record or break an existing one. If a car goes fast enough to qualify by breaking an existing speed for a certain class, the vehicle goes to the impound area. The crew can work on the car or motorcycle to prepare it for the next day when they get priority to repeat or exceed their speed the next morning.
