Dodge Journey debuted in model-year 2009, as the brand's new compact crossover (based on the Sebring chassis). It's a big seller for Dodge, offering (optional) seven-person seating for not too much money. Dodge intends to keep the winning formula intact for 2010, by not messing with its starting MRSP of $19,995.
Standard engine is the 2.4-litre DOHC 16-valve 173-hp I4, with dual VVT. The optional 3.5-litre V6 makes 235 hp.
Like all of Chrysler's people movers, the interior is full of clever features. That last seating row will be tight for adults, and some teenagers, but for small fry it's just the ticket. The split second row can slide fore and aft, and can be optioned with built-in booster seats. The front seat folds forward, to enable the stowage of long items. There is a rearview camera. The available navigation system comes with a hard drive, for photo and music storage.
It obviously heads into its second model year with no major changes. It does benefit, however, from some trim-level tweaking, and various across-the-line enhancements, such as…
• Fuel Saver Indicator (SVI), which provides fuel-related feedback;
• Standard active head rests in the front row;
• i-Pod cable provided as part of uconnect Hands-Free Communication system (on non-navigation models);
• New optional Trailer Sway Control system;
• Standard Electronic Stability Control (ESP) system;
• Stain-Repel seat fabric;
• Model hierarchy now SE, SE Plus, SXT, R/T AWD.
