You know, it's amazing how German engineers at Mercedes-Benz have a knack for looking forward while keeping a conservative approach. They've become such masters in the art of designing cars that every new product they release is both the expression of the richest automotive tradition in the world and the explosion of advanced technologies. That's exactly what the all-new 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is about.
In terms of tradition, this premium two-door model lives up to its storied predecessors. Proud, racy and sophisticated, it nicely joins one of the German brand's most important lineups. As for advancements, the coupe mirrors the sedan with a host of technological upgrades that improve safety and driving dynamics. And, sorry rivals (actually, the Audi A5), but the new E-Class Coupe proves a little more fun to drive than what tradition dictated so far. Pure styling Defined by the automaker's new design language, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe gets the prominent chrome grille that serves as the new corporate signature. It also looks more statuesque with a combination of a more sloping hood up front and pronounced carvings on the sides, just aft of the door panels. The arched roofline, in typical coupe fashion, is made even sleeker due to the lack of B-pillars. Technically, we're almost talking about a hard-top convertible. In fact, the coupe gives a pretty good idea of what the latter will look like upon its unveiling later this year. Further emphasizing its cabriolet resemblance, this E-Class comes standard with a huge panoramic sunroof; when open, it truly feels like open-top motoring. How cool! Opulent interior No guesswork inside where the cockpit is filled with high-grade materials, including some of the finest leathers. Two different interior configurations set the tone here: the Avantgarde with red leather upholstery and Elegance with beige leather. In both cases, styling remains true to the E-Class philosophy -- refined and understated -- and in line with Mercedes' traditional character. Like any self-respecting coupe, access to the rear seats is no easy task. Fortunately, the wide-opening doors and effortlessly-sliding front seats make the whole thing friendlier. Passenger room is limited, too, although two average-sized adults can sit back there without sacrificing comfort too much.
