Over the years as an automotive journalist, I have driven many incredible cars. Many of these cars are what I would class as dream cars, cars that we aspire to own, cars that make us shiver when we think of owning one, or make our arm hairs stand up when we hear one or see one drive by.
I have the honour this week of driving one of my personal dream cars. It is not just any Porsche – it is the 2010 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. My only complaint at this point is that the weather forecast calls for rain the entire time I'll have it. I am really not that upset, but there is nothing I enjoy more than a powerful, sporty car to drive with the top down!
This would not be my first choice of colour, I call it a shiny brown, and Porsche calls it Macadamia Metallic. But even I will admit that it looks pretty fantastic with the cabriolet roof in Cocoa and the interior in black/ sand beige. This colour is very unique and even though I was not a fan, other people really liked it.
This beautiful piece of machinery is equipped with a horizontally opposed inline 6-cylinder 3.8L turbocharged engine. It has a very impressive 500hp and 480lb-ft of torque. That means you can go from 0 – 100km in 3.8 seconds. To compare, the Carrera Cabriolet does it in 5.1 and the Carrera 4S Cabriolet in 4.9.
The starting price for this fine-looking machine is a measly $165,300 for the coupe and $178,400 for this Cabriolet. I hope you can read into my sarcasm, but if we are going to dream, I say we dream big!
So add on to this beast a few necessary upgrades: The Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) automatic transmission for $6,200 with matching PDK gear selector and aluminum handbrake (add $1,470) and the 3-spoke PDK sports steering wheel for $670. The matching sand coloured interior is an additional $590, bluetooth interface is $950 and don’t forget the matching floor mats for $210. Add it all up and the total price of this dream machine comes to $192,075.
