They’ve been teasing us for a while now, but we finally have more information on the Canadian version of the Mazda2 subcompact.
Available in our market as a five-door hatchback only, the Mazda2 will offer a 16-valve, 1.5-litre inline-4 that develops 100 horsepower and 98 pound-feet of torque as well as a 5-speed manual transmission.
Base GX model will include features such as 15-inch wheels with P185/55R15 tires, a tilt steering column, power door locks, illuminated entry, power windows, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, floor mats, a rear wiper, a stability control system, variable-assist power steering, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a CD/MP3 player with 2 speakers, anti-lock brakes and six airbags. Starting price will be $13,995.
Air conditioning is a $1,195 option, while the $895 Convenience Package will add heated mirrors, 2 more speakers, keyless entry, cruise control as well as wheel-mounted audio controls.
The GS includes all the aforementioned features and adds 15-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, fog lamps, a rear spoiler and side-sill extensions, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport-type cloth seats and 6 speakers. It will cost $18,195.
A four-speed automatic transmission is optional on both trims and will cost an extra $1,100.
The Mazda2 will also offer a choice of seven colours.
We predict that the volume seller will be the GX with A/C and the Convenience Package, which means a price of $16,085 with the 5-speed manual.
The Mazda2 should arrive in dealerships this June.
