Stylistically refreshed and decked with new tech, options and packages, the 2020 Kia Sprtage was officially presented this morning at the Chicago Auto Show.
Kia has given the most “European” of its SUVs new fascias front and back to create a more aggressive look. Also notable are design changes to the headlights (available as LED, with available LED turn signals as well), fog lights, grille, bumper, air intakes, skid plate and rear light contours. A new exterior colour is also part of the product offering for 2020: Steel Grey.
Inside, Kia added options like SOFINO leatherette seats, a wireless smartphone charging tray and navigation. The standard screen is an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The steering wheel and vent bezels have also been redesigned.
A Sportage S
Kia also announced the introduction of a new version joining the lineup of Sportage trims for 2020, the S. No surprise, this is a sportier variant that will feature unique exterior and interior elements.
The product offering includes two engine choices: a 2.4L GDI (181 hp, 175 lb-ft of torque) and a 2.0L turbocharged GDI with a maximum output of 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. In both cases, power is managed by a 6-speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive system is available as an option.
New for 2020, Kia added several safety/drive assist systems to the list of included equipment, among them driver attention warning, lane keep assist, intelligent cruise control with stop/start, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and high beam assist.
It shoul be noted that the details announced today at the premier in Chicago concern the Sprtage that will be sold in the U.S., and there could be some differences in terms of the trims and included equipment for the model that will be available in Canada. We will of course keep you informed when we learn precise details (and pricing) for our market.
