Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, comments on the new XK. "Built in tradition of great Gand Tourers, with state-of-the-art engineering, aerospace-inspired construction and outstanding driving dynamics, the new XK is the latest in a long line of legendary performance Jaguars."Sounds lovely-- but lets cut to the best part. The latest breed to roll out of Liverpool is powered by one of two all-new V8 engines-- which Jaguar says are the most efficient they've ever built. Numbers? How about 385 ponies and 380 pounds feet from the standard engine, and a thundering 510 horses and 461 pounds feet from the supercharged unit. If you need more thrust than that, you'd best start looking into a pilots license. Both new V8 engines are five litre units with direct injection for enhanced efficiency,
fuel economy and emissions performance. Oh, the supercharged engine enables 0-60 runs in 4.6 seconds, too. Go the naturally-aspirated route, and you'll have to wait a few ticks more-- with a 5.2 second 0-60 time."With an all-new, supercharged AJ-V8 engine, the new
XKR has all the performance, power and panache that you expect in the ultimate sporting Jaguar" added O'Driscoll. Power is routed to the hind claws by a six-speed paddle-shifted automatic with the brand's fancy 'Jaguar Drive Select' shift knob. There's even an overachieving rear differential that helps the XK handle more precisely.
