2017 Ford Fusion Quick Look

By ,

The midsize segment is still quite popular and buyers looking for a modern, sophisticated sedan certainly don’t lack choices. Returning with even more safety and selection, the 2017 Ford Fusion benefits from a significant update and is due to arrive this spring. Here’s a preview of what to expect.

Two new models

In addition to the familiar trim levels (S, SE, Titanium), the revised Fusion adds Sport and Platinum models for 2017. The former stands out from the pack with a 2.7L EcoBoost V6, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and all-wheel drive as standard, promising superior power and handling for driving enthusiasts. It is also complemented by unique, performance-inspired styling elements inside and out.

The equally new Fusion Platinum was designed with a higher level of style and comfort in mind. The exterior features a unique front grille and standard 19” polished-aluminum wheels. A host of standard driver-assist technologies including pedestrian detection (a first for Ford in North America) can help you be more aware of your surroundings and help you feel more confident behind the wheel.

The Titanium model remains an upscale alternative with leather-trimmed seating, heated front seats, and next-generation SYNC 3 featuring new hardware and software and a new, easy-to-use design. The revised centre console provides open, usable space by replacing the traditional gear shifter with a new rotary gear shift dial.

Other changes

Outside, the 2017 Ford Fusion has a distinctive new front grille with available new LED headlights. The lower front fascia was refreshed and incorporates newly styled fog light housings. In the rear, the taillights have a little something different, too, most notably a chrome strip that connects them.

In terms of body colours, Burgundy Velvet, White Gold, and Lightning Blue have replaced Bronze Fire, Deep Impact Blue, Guard Metallic, and Tectonic Silver.

Under the hood

When it comes to powertrain options, the new Ford Fusion will be in an even better position to meet the needs of sedan buyers. The base 2.5L 4-cylinder returns along with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the available 1.5L EcoBoost turbo engine now comes standard with auto start-stop technology.

The 2.0L EcoBoost 4-banger is a great choice for drivers who desire more horsepower, although the aforementioned new 2.7L EcoBoost V6 packs a punch like no other (output has yet to be confirmed).

Let’s not forget the returning Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi (plug-in hybrid). The former offers SmartGauge with EcoGuide, a virtual coach that keeps you informed in real time about the efficiency of your vehicle and your driving. As for the latter, with the convenience of charging options and the MyFord Mobile app, you can monitor and schedule charging for your Fusion from just about anywhere to help you extend your battery range.

Full pricing and equipment details for the 2017 Ford Fusion will be announced shortly. We’ll keep you posted.
