With only one week left before the September 17th deadline set by the union, the workers at the Canadian Chrysler, GM, and Ford plants are far from having reached an agreement with their employers. The CAW has vowed to launch a simultaneous cross-Canada work-stoppage at the Big Three production facilities.

CAW President Ken Lewenza remains optimistic about reaching an agreement before this deadline. '' We hope that these next few days will see a systematic agreement reached on every individual issue. We are not yet at that point at this moment.''

Negotiations have hit a wall on important issues such as retirement after 30 years of service, the implementation of a fixed-contribution pension model instead of a fixed-revenue model, and concessions made on various health-coverage issues.
