Yesterday, Delphi announced that it had received final approvals from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) required for the sale of its new

XM satellite radio receiver to the public. The latest device in the successful "SKYFi" family, the new SKYFi3 unit is smaller than its predecessor by some 65% but maintains most of the functionality found in the previous unit.

The product is intended mainly for vehicular use, with a car-dock included. It features a large and easy to read screen and portability outside of the vehicle as well. The screen features the largest nine-line display in its class and mounts vertically or horizontally with the car dock.

Frank Ordonez, president of Delphi Product and Service Solutions said "Early demand for the product has been tremendous. With its impressive list of

features, the SKYFi3 sets the new standard for plug-and-play systems."

Catching onto a trend in portable satellite radio, the SKYFi receiver can store and manage 10 hours of programming through a built-in internal memory. Optional are removable microSD cards to store and sort MP3 files as well.

Delphi's latest venture into the world of XM satellite radio will be on sale for this year's holiday season with a retail price around $229. A Live Wearable kit is also available, featuring integrated headphones and a built-in antenna, allowing users to take satellite radio with them on the go.
