Honda Canada will add an LX-V6 package to its Accord lineup for 2001, and all versions of the mid-size sedan and coupe will get a new look and upgraded equipment.
Four-door versions of Accord will get a new front fascia and hood, which Honda Canada's Bill Bunting says are "more aggressive," as well as a new taillight and decklid design. New sedan color choices include Firepepper Red Pearl with Quartz Grey interior, and Eternal Blue Pearl with Ivory interior. The LX models also get body-colored side moulding.
Bunting says Accord coupes also get more aggressive front and rear bumper styling, a body-colored grille, and new alloy wheels for the EX model with either the 4- or the 6-cylinder engines. New exterior colors for the coupe include Naples Gold and Eternal Blue, and there's a sportier interior look to the graphics and silver accents.
The LX-V6 sedan of course gets the 3-litre engine that delivers 200 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, as well as ABS and the equipment that comes with other LX models-a CD that replaces the cassette player, illuminated window switches, and a new wheel cover design for the non-ABS 4-cylinder models.
In the area of passenger safety, all 2001 model Accords now employ advanced dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags that monitor seatbelt use and crash severity and adjust bag deployment force accordingly.
In addition, Bunting points out, there are advanced side airbags on V6 models (except the new LX version) and 4-cylinder EX models. This advanced new system prevents the passenger side airbag from deploying if a child or small adult is leaning into the side airbag deployment path.
