The spiritual successor to Jaguar's famous E-Type roadster has been postponed, or more likely cancelled.
The F-Type seems to have been caught in the cash squeeze emanating from Ford Motor Company, which has owned the British brand for more than a decade.
Jaguar said it needed the money to go ahead with other models, including a total redesign of the XJ sedan for later this year, and upcoming makeovers of the XK coupe/convertible, and the S-Type sedan.
Jaguar North America spokesman Simon Sproule said those programs for more expensive and therefore more profitable cars were felt to be more important to the brand's long-term success.
"Jaguar is still emotionally wedded to doing the F-Type," Sproule said. "We just need to do other things more urgently."
