Mitsubishi's next-generation electric vehicle will be displayed at the New York Auto Show, which opened last week. Based on the nimble and efficient 'i' car, the i MiEV is part of the Japanese automakers advanced environmental strategy which features several other models and technologies.
The iMiEV model is 100 percent electric and motivated by a lithium-battery powered drive system that creates no emissions. Mitsubishi will put an experimental fleet of i MiEV's into testing in North America later this year.
The i MiEV Sport designated concept leverages the electrical vehicle's natural lightweight advantages for a performance boost, intending to show that the company's green cars can also be a whole lot of fun to drive. Solar panels on the roof and a turbine-powered generator in the grille help to recharge the batteries.
The Concept cX compact SUV will be on display as well, powered by a clean diesel engine that will make its European debut in 2009. In the cX, the engine is hooked up to a Twin Clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST), which enhances both efficiency and fun to drive qualities. The cX even uses what Mitsubishi calls 'green plastic', which is derived from plant-based sources.
The New York Auto Show runs until next Sunday.
