For the first time in Saleen's history, their high-performance five-liter (302) cubic inch V8 will be available in a convenient take-home package. The company's Speedlab Aftermarket Division will sell the powerplant as a 'crate engine' in either short or long-block varieties, matching the needs of engine builders.
It's the same OEM quality engine used in Saleen-built performance vehicles, having already powered several of the company's custom models.
"This addition to our aftermarket product lineup was a no brainer," says Carlos Duran, Manager of Saleen's Speedlab Aftermarket Division. "This engine is currently at high production rates, which allows for quick delivery to Saleen Speedlab consumers. We want to provide our customers with the utmost in confidence relating to this new line of products."
Available for naturally-aspirated or supercharged applications, the engine is based on the 4.6 liter, three-valve V8 found in the Ford Mustang. Saleen's version is upgraded internally with forged parts like pistons, rods and crankshaft that will exceed the demands of professional engine builders. The engine creates 390 horsepower in naturally aspirated form, while supercharged 302 engines from Saleen create 580 horsepower.
Saleen says their crate engine can be hooked up with a variety of further-upgraded parts if desired. The engine launches this May.
