In advance of its New York Auto Show debut next month, Shelby offers a peek at its 2012 Shelby 1000.
The Shelby 1000 will be available in both street and track versions; the former is rated at 950 hp, while the track-oriented edition gets more than 1,100 hp.
Carroll Shelby and his team started with a 2012 Shelby GT500. They took Ford's 5.4-litre V8 down to the block and added new rods, crank and pistons, flowed the heads, upgraded the cooling and exhaust, replaced the superchargers and "sprinkled it with a little Shelby magic."
The suspension got new sway bars and bushings, and improved handling and stopping comes from six pistons in front and four in the rear.
A limited production of numbered and documented Shelby 1000s will be produced. U.S. pricing starts at $149,995, not including the base GT500; a completed Shelby 1000 is expected to fetch $200,000. Orders will be accepted after the car debuts in New York on April 5. I'm sure Leno has the number on speed dial already.
