Ford releases the 2009 Flex and the 2009 F-150 at the Toronto Auto Show
If a seven-passenger minivan doesn't sell, replace it with a seven-passenger crossover. The Flex goes on sale this summer and shares the 3.5-liter V6 that's found in the Edge, which develops 265 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is optional.
The Flex can be ordered with a choice of two roof colors, white or silver, which can be mixed with the available selection of 10 exterior colors.
The cockpit of the Flex can be equipped with a refrigerator that's located in the 2nd-row of seats. A multi-panel sunroof sheds light on all three rows. The 2nd-row seats are said to feature best-in-class legroom and a power option can fold and tumble them at the touch of a button. The Flex can also be ordered with Sync and a navigation system with voice recognition.
The F-150 is redesigned for 2009 and brings a host of improvements to Canada's overall best-selling vehicle in 2007. Ford claims a stiffer chassis that translates into greater towing and hauling capacity.
Standard equipment in the F-150 includes Roll Stability Control and Trailer Sway Control. A backup camera and a trailer brake controller figure among the options list. The SuperCrew cab is 6 inches (152 mm) longer for more rear-seat legroom. The F-150's tailgate gets the novel step-up feature that is found on the Super Duty.
Comfort and convenience features include Sync, a navigation system with voice recognition, and a surround sound system.
As usual, a plethora of configurations will be available, including three cabs, four box options and seven trim levels. The new Platinum series features upgraded luxury content. Three V8 engines are offered, and diesel as well as EcoBoost turbo direct-injection engines will be available in 2010.
Also on display at Ford's stand is the trio of concepts that were presented at the Detroit Auto Show last year: the Ford Interceptor, the Ford Airstream and the Lincoln MKR.
