Mercedes-Benz has released a fairly revealing teaser video of its Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept SUV-sedan cross, ahead of its official world debut this week at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show.
A number of the design elements of the new prototype are shown in the video, including the imposing chrome-covered front grille (first used on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 coupe concept in 2016), a two-section panoramic sunroof, door handles that pop out when needed and of course Ultimate Luxury badging at various strategic places.
The model represents Mercedes-Benz radical notion of combining the SUV and the classic large saloon, while preserving certain of the brand’s distinctive design cues.
A few days prior to the release of the video, images of the concept leaked via the CarNewsChina website; these images provide an even more revealing look at the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept, specifically its back end, where the success or failure of the attempt to merge SUV and large sedan will ultimately be judged.
The same leak also made it known that the concept is an electric-powered vehicle equipped with four motors working with all-wheel drive to produce a total power output of 738 BHP. Those motors will be fed by an 80 kWh battery located under the passenger seating area. Range is expected to hover around 500 km.
Unsurprisingly, the interior is designed with high-end luxury as a starting point, at least if the leaked images are anything to go by.
It’s important to remember that this prototype is being developed primarily with the Chinese market in mind, but we can expect a number of styling, design and technology elements to migrate into other new models from the manufacturer.
