A brake failure pitched Power into a tyre wall in Friday's practice, forcing the Roshfrans Rookie of the Year leader to miss opening qualifying. Power's #5 Aussie Vineyards Lola was repaired overnight, allowing him to post a sensational sixth in today's session. Team Australia driver and Champ Car veteran Alex Tagliani suffered a similar fate to his Aussie Vineyards team-mate today in San Jose, with the Canadian missing today's qualifying session after a crash in practice damaged his #15 Aussie Vineyards Lola. Tagliani clipped a tyre wall at Turn 6 in Practice 4, the tyres pulling his car in and damaging it enough to rule him out for the day. Tagliani's time from yesterday's opening qualifying session was still good enough to put his Aussie Vineyards Lola in 13th position for tomorrow's race. Defending series champion Sebastien Bourdais took pole position for the Canary Foundatoin San Jose Grand Prix, ahead of the Forsythe duo of Paul Tracy and AJ Allmendinger.
