Wheldon still on top at Chicagoland - Practice 2 source: irl.racing-live.com Dan Wheldon continues to perform like the 2005 Champion he will soon become by again outrunning the field at Chicagoland Speedway in the IndyCar Series second practice session of the weekend. The Andretti Green Racing driver lead Scott Sharp, Tony Kanaan and Dario Franchitti as Honda powered drivers took the top four positions, with Chevrolet's Tomas Scheckter in fifth. Turning in a time of 25.0871seconds (218.120miles per hour), Wheldon improved by 0.15seconds as most drivers spent the session working in the always important draft at the 1.5mile superspeedway. The only incident of the session came early in the first group when Kosuke Matsuura and Tomas Enge apparently got together coming off of turn two. Matsuura spun down the backstretch into the infield grass, suffering slight damage to the left rear wheel and left front wing. Enge would drive his car to the pits and immediately returned to the track once Matsuura's car was cleared from the race course and the track went back to green flag conditions. There was no replay available, but observers reported that Enge may have cut off the young Japanese driver. By running second in the practice session, Scott Sharp is well positioned to repeat the 2004 victories of car owner Adrian Fernandez who at the Kentucky, Chicagoland, and California Speedway's. Sharp scored his first victory since Motegi in '03 at Kentucky, and his Panoz/Honda appears to be a legitimate contender on the remaining superspeedways.
