Forsythe Championship Racing is proud to announce that it will field a car for Champ Car Atlantic graduate David Martinez at the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix on November 10-12, the final event of the year as Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. source: champcarworldseries.com The young Mexican driver is the most recent graduate of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship to move up to the Champ Car World Series. Martinez began his career like most other top open-wheel drivers in go karts at a very young age earning numerous championships in Mexico. In 1997 he was named top rookie in the Formula 3000 Marlboro Cup. In 2000 and 2001 he had consecutive fourth place finishes in the Mexican Formula 3 Championship. Martinez made his debut in the Champ Car Ladder System in 2002 making one start in the Atlantic Championship in front of his home crowd in Monterrey, Mexico. A Barber Dodge Pro Series victory at Monterrey, Mexico and the Mexican Formula Renault Championship highlighted his 2003 season. In 2004 Martinez migrated to Europe and produced five top-five results in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup Series. The 25 year old missed the first race of the year in the 2005 Champ Car Atlantic Championship but still managed to claim fifth in his rookie season. He finished third in his first race in Monterrey Mexico, captured his first career pole and scored a total of four podiums and seven top-five finishes. In 2006 Martinez returned to Atlantic and repeated his fifth place in the championship despite a challenging season in which he switched teams halfway through the year, but still managed to continue his success on Mexican soil by finishing third at the Monterrey, Mexico event. Martinez will team up with Paul Tracy and Buddy Rice in Mexico City and pilot Forsythe's #33 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola in his Champ Car debut. This will mark the first time since the end of the 2004 Season that the Forsythe Team will run a three car operation. Martinez will get his first taste of a Champ Car on Friday November 3rd at the MSR Houston road course in a test alongside teammate Buddy Rice. David Martinez #33 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola "I'm very happy, this is a dream come true! Being able to make my Champ Car debut with one of the best teams in the world is incredible. And what better place to start off this new stage of my life than in Mexico where everybody has supported me so much. I want to thank Jerry Forsythe and his Team for believing in me, I know it's not going to be easy but I've been waiting for a long time for this great opportunity and I'm going to make the most of it. Having Paul Tracy as a teammate will definitely be an advantage, he has a great deal of experience and I hope I can learn a lot from him and from the rest of the Team, the most important thing is to grow lap by lap so that by the end of the race we can be competing up front."
