With both cars safely in the field, Red Bull Cheever Racing used Sunday's
Bump Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to focus on race preparation.
Alex Barron ran 30 laps to scuff tires and working on pit stops. His best speed
of the day was 217.878 mph. Patrick Carpentier nearly equaled Barron's work,
completing 29 laps with a top speed of 217.946 mph.
"We've been running full fuel since last week. We wanted to try a couple more
things this afternoon, but unfortunately we couldn't get back out. I think we're
getting pretty close, though. We need a little better back end, and if we have
that for the race, I think it's going to be good," Carpentier said.
Barron also was pleased with his accomplishments today, saying "Our Sunday was
longer than I thought it was going to be. We ran through some things, and I ran
with my teammate trying to figure out what we're going to do with our setups. We
need a little more running to fine tune, but I think we made another step in the
right direction," Barron said.
Saturday's qualifying session brought the field to 32, and Felipe Giaffone
captured the final remaining spot in today's session. As a result, the field for
the 89th Indianapolis 500 now is set. Barron will start the race on the inside
of row eight, while Carpentier will start one row behind him on the inside of
row nine. The "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" will take place at noon on May 29.
It will be broadcast live on ABC.
