The Aussie Vineyards Team Australia squad just failed to make the top ten in qualifying today for the final round of 2005 Champ Car World Series source: Team Australia The team was battling mid-corner understeer aboard their trio of Lola-Ford Cosworth machines in Mexico City. Alex Tagliani led the charge for Team Australia, recording the 11th fastest time of 1 minute, 28.089 seconds. His assault on the top ten was hindered with only a few corners remaining on his final lap in qualifying when Jimmy Vasser pulled onto the track after a spin - right in front of the Canadian who was on a flying lap. Aussie rookie Will Power impressed during practice to record times solidly in the top ten. However, he was unable to repeat the effort as the times tumbled during qualifying. Power unfortunately hit the rev limiter changing up a gear coming onto the straight on his final attack - affecting his straight line speed. The Queenslander will start from position 13 tomorrow. Recently-crowned Toyota Atlantic champion Charles Zwolsman also suffered misfortune during the final qualifying session. The Dutchman suffered his first spin aboard a Champ Car while making his final qualifying attack - bringing out the red flag and earning an eight minute penalty - forcing him to sit out the remainder of the session. Zwolsman will begin tomorrow's race from position 18. The final round of the 2005 Champ Car World Series kicks off in Mexico City tomorrow at 2.45pm local time (7.45am AEST).
