Besides meeting some wonderful race fans over the weekend, the Champ Car World Series displayed nothing but sensational on-track entertainment throughout the entire race weekend. source: paddocktalk.com - Brad Gerhart Sure, many enter the grounds with nothing but volleyball or beer gardens on their minds, but for the most part the majority are there for one purpose... To see some of the best drivers in the world, and to cheer on their hometown favorites - Champ Car's Paul Tracy and Atlantic driver James Hinchcliffe. In previous years, at the track I've noticed quite a few people wearing NASCAR and other series gear as they venture through the paddock area to their seats. However, this year - with no Trans-Am and CASCAR as support series - the amount of people supporting Champ Car merchandise far surpassed my expectations and was quite positive to see. And though the World Cup final may have put a damper on final attendance numbers, you can bet it did not stop hard-core race fans from missing out on one of Toronto's hottest annual event. Friday's crowd appeared to be way up from past years and made the event feel like it was full swing. Even though Tracy qualified fourth, A.J. Allmendinger found the top of the charts using Tracy's setup. He just beat out Justin Wilson and the pleasant surprise of Nelson Philippe who at the last second pushed to the front with a third place qualifying effort using the harder compound tires. The best story in all of motorsports right now could be Allmendinger's "rag to riches" story. In Toronto, he completed the hat trick by picking up his third straight Champ Car win with his new Forsythe crew. I do recall a certain writer, from a certain website at the beginning of the season who selected Allmendinger to win the championship. And I do remember this writer stating that once Allmendinger gets over that hump of his first victory there would be plenty more in the very near future.
