It was somewhat ironic that CART championship leader Paul Tracy was blocked during his first qualifying run Saturday at the Vancouver street course source: cart.com - John Oreovicz The perpetrator was Gualter Salles in the Dale Coyne Racing Lola, and the Brazilian was promptly notified that his transgression would cost him his best qualifying lap. The same fate befell Tracy less than 24 hours earlier, albeit with slightly higher stakes. Four hours after provisional qualifying ended on Friday, Tracy was stripped of his pole position because CART stewards deemed that he had intentionally blocked two competitors, a charge brought on by official protests from Newman/Haas Racing and Rocketsports Racing. Tracy refused to discuss the matter Saturday until after final qualifying. By then, he had already let his driving do the talking by re-claiming the pole he felt he had earned on Friday, again over Bruno Junqueira. "That's what our gameplan was," said the 'Thrill from West Hill.' "We wanted to go out when the track was empty and we wanted to leave no room for anybody to complain about anything. "It's very satisfying," he added. "Yesterday I felt we were wrongly stripped of my pole position and the one point. It was given to the wrong person - he hadn't earned it. From that standpoint, I'm very happy about today and was very motivated by today."
